Ever wonder why churches don’t grow?
In the days immediately following Jesus’ death and resurrection, the church grew quickly, by leaps and bounds, but why doesn’t that happen today? As you read the Scriptures from Acts, we find that Paul began preaching and going on mission trips. On one such trip we find that Paul and Timothy:
“went from town to town, instructing believers to follow the decisions made by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem. So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.” – Acts 16:4-5
Simply stated, the members of the church “followed” the teachings of Christ. Ever wonder why I named this blog “FollowinGod” ???
It’s when we “follow” Christ that we are more likely to succeed. It’s when we follow Christ that we are more likely to understand. And it’s when we follow Christ that we are more likely to do His Will and expand His Kingdom.
Next time you wonder why the church may not be growing, don’t point to those people who have left, but think inwardly about what YOU can do to be a better follower of God. How can we show God’s love through us? How can we help God grow our church?
James, I really needed this message today! I don’t get to read your blog everyday, but I have been faced with an obstacle today that has affected my whole day and it has to do with Following God. Thanks for reminding me what my real motivation is, whether anyone else sees that or not.
Jennifer
Thanks Jennifer. It seems like some days that “I” just don’t get it. It seems that I try hard everyday, and it’s like I’m just not getting through. Or that “it’s just not worth it.”
I didn’t understand today’s blog or why I felt led to write it, but as I tell a lot of young people that are entering the ministry – you never know who you might be influencing. And if there is just ONE person out there that hears your message – it’s ALL worth it. TODAY, you made my blog and my efforts worth it. Thanks Jennifer!
