Psalm 23 – part 2
Psalm 23 – verses 4-6
Yesterday I discussed 5 points from verses 1-3 of Psalm 23.
Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Today I’ll discuss what vs 4-6 tells us:
Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
We often talk, as Christians, about our faith in the Lord to protect us and to carry us through. In fact, in many cases of extreme trials and especially in times of loss of family members, we often quote Psalm 23.
This passage of Scripture reminds us that although we undergo many troubles, and walk in the “shadow of death,” we can walk without fear. God is there to comfort us – His hands will protect us.
That’s a great promise. We all go through hard times, but if we truly believe, if we truly trust, then we can be comforted in knowing that God will forever be with us, carrying us through to the other side.
