RE: Little Johnny’s Prayer

“I like it. Maybe that’s a prayer we should pray to God – to ask him to please put up with us while we try to be more Christ like.
Mom” (in reference to joke below)

Little Johnny had been misbehaving and was sent to his room.
After a while he emerged and informed his mother that he had thought it over and had said a prayer.
“Great!,” said the pleased mother. “If you ask God to help you not misbehave, He will help you.”
“Oh, I didn’t ask Him to help me not misbehave,” said Johnny. “I asked Him to help you put up with me.”

Thanks Mom, I never really thought about turning this simple joke into a devotion, but it really is powerful: ”that’s a prayer we should pray to God”

We should be praying to ask God to put up with us. We are so imperfect beings that we should ask our Heavenly Father to be patient with us as we become more Christ-like. We should be trying to behave, but its inevitable that we will fail in His eyes. God has high standards for us, just like we have high standards for our children.

I can imagine each time we misbehave (sin) that God is disappointed, not just personally, but sad to see us fail for our own pride. He doesn’t want us to fail and doesn’t want us to sin (misbehave).

Let’s all say a prayer to God to help Him put up with us while we work to be more Christ-like!

(Thanks again Mom!)
