Dear God,

And Jesus answered him, ‘It is said: Do not test the Lord your God.’ – Luke 4:12

Wow, how many times have I violated that one? “Dear God, if you would just…, then I would….”        Or maybe, “Dear God, if you would just give me a sign.”

How foolish of me! Jesus had fasted for 40 days alone in the wilderness and was still able to resist the devil. And what I think is awesome - Jesus didn’t use any superhuman strength or miracle. He used scripture to denounce and refuse the devil. The great thing is we can use scripture too against satan. When he attacks, fight back with the Word of God, it is powerful to defeat satan and sin. But first, we must know the Word of God, that is why we should be reading the Bible everyday.

I really needed this today. We can’t make deals with God, which is what we try to do sometimes.
