The Christmas Story – Part Nine

The angel told Mary she would conceive a baby to be known as Savior of the world:

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” Continue reading

The Christmas Story – Part Eight

Now that we have Jesus, the burden is on us to help His Kingdom grow. Sure, His Kingdom will last forever, but not everyone will be a part of it. If you know somebody that’s not a part of His Kingdom today, it is our duty and honor to tell them TODAY because tomorrow we may not get the chance. Be obedient today – tell others about Jesus.

The Christmas Story – Part Seven

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Continue reading

The Christmas Story – Part Four

My challenge to each of us today is to find one thing to improve in our lives to make us more Christ-like. Once we accomplish this improvement in our life we can take another bite. What will you do differently today for God? By doing this we can start preparing ourselves for the Lord.

The Christmas story – Part Two

I stopped at this point, because I feel there is something we can learn from this brief part of the Christmas story. It is obedience. Although Zechariah was chosen by chance to be the priest to offer incense at the altar, we find in the following passage that he quickly obeyed and entered the sanctuary to burn the incense as instructed. He didn’t doubt, he didn’t pause – he immediately obeyed.

The Christmas Story begins

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. – John 1:6

This is the beginning of the Christmas story. Although the birth of Jesus, and the travels of the Wise Men to Him are some of the most popular scenes associated with Christmas, it is important to rewind to a time when Zechariah and Elizabeth are promised a baby (John).

got a bone to pick?

Days get so hectic that sometimes we just don’t take time to relax and forget about things. But more so than that, during these hectic days, we sometimes blame others for things that they didn’t even mean to do.

now is the time

God has overlooked the things in the past. However, this is only but history. It is the future that God is concerned about. No matter what you may have done in your past, all is forgiven if you come to God and repent (meaning turn away from your past ways). Continue reading

The Son of God – the appointed one

This morning I had the opportunity to spend some time in the Greek Testament studying Romans 1. What I found was interesting as it relates to who Jesus is.

the gospel He promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding His Son, who as to His earthly life[a] was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b] by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through Him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from[c] faith for His name’s sake. 6 And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
